It's A Pirate's Life For Me

Today I felt like doing a smokey-yet-colorful look, but not the typical colored lid and black crease like most do. I was going through all my shadows when I rediscovered some shadows I had. :P I incorporated one of my favorite colors from Victorian Disco.

With today being such a beautiful Oklahoma day, I went outside and decided to take some photos. I think it's safe to say I will definitely be taking my makeup photos outside from now on :P

Products Used:
-Nyx Golden Jumbo Eye Pencil
-Victorian Disco's Godric
-Glamour Doll Eye's Trophy Wife
-Wet N' Wild's Comfort Zone Palette
-Sugarpill's Poison Plum
-Makeup Forever's Aqua Liner in 01 Black
-Rimmel Black Kohl Liner
-Rimmel's Sexy Curves Mascara
-Ardell Lashes.

Neru Biotech Face Mask Review Series #2

The second face mask from Neru Biotech I tried was the Seaweed Mask. I chose this mask because my face was feeling a little dry and looked quite dull. Seaweed masks have such great benefits when applied topically. Sea weed is packed full of vitamins, amino acids, minerals, to help maintain  bright, youthful skin. Phytonutrients found in seaweed increase blood flow and repairing injured skin, all while making skin look brighter and softer. Sea weed also contains fatty acids to help combat skin inflammation and irritation. Adding a steam or a steamed towel to the skin while the face mask is on helps expel toxins and bacteria easier and faster.

Now this face mask did not magically transform my skin from drab to a J.Lo glow, but it did make my skin feel nourished and brighter. My skin didn't feel rough. Adding a warm towel on top of the gommage mask made it feel more like a spa. My skin doesn't feel like crud. However I'm not sure if I would use this regularly. Though it did work well, I just feel as though it could have done much more.

2014 Prom Look #1

With Prom arriving soon, girls here in Oklahoma are finalizing their plans, booking appointments for hair, facials, nails and makeup! As a makeup artist, I not only like to apply makeup to others, but I like to help others out makeup wise even if I may not be the one doing it. So I figured I would do a couple looks for those girls who will be doing their own makeup and might need a reference photo.

With my first look, I decided to stick with a nice, elegant, yet simple smokey eye. I didn't want a super colorful smokey eye; I wanted to keep it subtle but beautiful. I decided to use to gorgeous silver shadows from Glamour Doll Eyes paired with a sleek matte black eyeshadow also from Glamour Doll Eyes.

I think this simple smokey eye could be paired with ANY style dress. It's simple but bold without being TOO bold. For this look I used:

-Lime Crime Eye Primer
-GlamourDollEyes's Sword Swallower
-GlamourDollEyes's Electric Chair
-GlamourDollEyes's Pistol, Pistol
-GlamourDollEyes's Urban Trash
-Urban Decay's 24/7 Liquid Liner
-Falsies Mascara
-Rimmel's SunShimmer 001 Sun Kiss
-CoverGirl's Lipstick 200 Sultry

Neru Biotech Face Mask Review Part 1

This week I tried one of the 10 face masks I received a week ago. The first mask I tried was their Herb mask. This was a gommage mask, which means the consistency of the mask itself is basically too runny so it comes on a gauze like mask that you lay on your face. The gauze keeps the product from dripping or running. I believe all the masks are gommage masks.

I didn't want to start out with an advanced mask like the stem cell, enzyme, or the gnarly one like snail. Yes, I have a snail mask. Yum! :P So I went with the simple, natural herbal blend.

I applied this after cleansing and exfoliating of course. I was expecting it to smell a little muddy to be honest. But it smelled really good and refreshing. Another thing I liked about this mask is that it the gauze layering has little flaps for your eyelids! I have never seen that style. Sounds silly but it's really nice to have the option to apply it on your upper lids.

I left this mask on for 15 minutes. After 10 minutes I noticed this tingly feeling in my cheeks almost as if I just got my mouth numbed at the dentist. I felt like my cheeks and lips were getting kinda puffy. I looked in my mirror just to make sure everything was okay, skin wasn't getting red or tender. After I washed the mask off, my skin felt firmer than before especially in my cheeks, mouth and jaw. My skin felt refreshed and very hydrated.

It's been 3 days since I've used the Herb face mask and my skin still feels tight and firm, I haven't had any little dry spots. I would like to actually purchase more of this face mask. I would recommend it

Most Common Eyebrow Mistakes.

We all know the importance of a nicely shaped brow. They can help frame our individual face shapes and  help us look a little more polished. In the struggle of unruly eyebrows, some of us are making some major eyebrow no-no's and that is why this post is being written; to lessen the struggle and hopefully help some with some at-home tips.

1. Placement

When it comes to shaping your eyebrows, the main rule is you can only work with what you have so be sparing. Always stop and look at the opposite brow to make sure you have symmetry. To determine the beginning point, arch, and ending point, it is best to use a brush or pencil and a mirror. This allows you to better determine these points. Place the brush/pencil along the side of your nose, this is where the brow should start. Next, moving the brush/pencil directly across your iris (from the outer corner of your nose) this is where your arch should be. Lastly extending it towards the outer corner, still touching your nose, this is the ending point.

2. Using Unclean Tweezers.

Never use old or unclean tweezers! I cannot stress this enough. As you are pulling the hair out you are causing a microscopic injury to the skin/follicle. Dirty tweezers can spread infection.

It is best to clean and sanitize your tweezers with a dab of 70-90% isopropyl alcohol and let it dry. Before and after tweezing, swipe antiseptic on the skin around your brows to further prevent a bacterial infection.

3. Too Much Arch.

Rainbow or Nike shaped eyebrows can leave the face looking constantly surprised. To find the natural arch, look at the highest point of your eyebrows. This is typically two-thirds of the way from the inner brow. Tweezing below this helps create a more natural look lift in the face. If you have lighter brows or just unsure when it comes to eyebrows, try filling your brows in and tweeze around the ideal shape.

4. Overusing the Brow Filler/Pencil

Light feathery strokes of an eyebrow pencil can transform thin, fragile brows from eh to gorgeous and well defined. The object of a brow pencil or filler is to shade in any sparse spot and trace the brows. When choosing a pencil or filler try to avoid black, even if you have black eyebrows, Instead use a shade that is 1-2 shades lighter.

5. Tweezing/Waxing While Using  Accutane/ Retnoid Creams.

Accutane is a prescription drug used to combat cystic acne, severe acne and excess oil by disrupting the oil glands with vitamins. This causes the skin to get pretty dry. Tweezing and waxing while using Accutane can tear the skin causing tiny wounds. It is recommended to wait 6 weeks after the last dose to get waxed.

Retnoid creams fight aging, boost collagen, speed up cell turnover and unclog pores. But it also leaves the skin very sensitive and thin. It is also recommended to wait 6 weeks after the last dose before getting waxed.

6. Never Seeing A Professional.

If your unsure about your brow look or nervous about overplucking, or even if you have overplucked and want it fixed, go see a specialist! A professional can help you find your natural arch, teach you up-keeping, Even if you see them only once or twice a year.

My Updated Facial Routine!

I've been asked about my skin and my skin care routine a lot lately, so I wanted to make this post all about my skin type and the things I have found that works wonders for it!

I never really had any skin issues growing up.I had few pimples and blackheads here and there but nothing too horrible. Though, the few times that I would get a pimple, they would be deep, painful ones. (Yum, I know) In middle school I made the decision to take daily care of my skin in fear that I would slowly end up as another pizza faced preteen.

Over the years, my skin has changed with exposure, stress, motherhood and so on. Moving from California to Oklahoma has definitely affected my skin as well. I don't have a bad complexion persay; but my skin does have it's issues. My forehead tends to get really dry and painful in the fall -winter due to eczema which sucks because it's always sore and raw feeling. It's incredibly sensitive and most products tend to burn it really bad. My chin tends to get the occasional breakouts due to stress, that time of the month, or just because. Here are some great things that work for me.

For a cleanser I really like Neutrogena's Deep Clean Cream Cleanser. It has a cooling effect to help me feel awake and refreshed. Other cleansers I have tried stripped too much of the natural oils from my face, leaving it feeling very dry and tight but this cleanser doesn't. Plus there is no alcohol to affect the dry spots on my face. I would recommend this to any person with acne, oily to normal skin types. I purchased this at Wal-Mart for 8.95

I FINALLY got my hands on some of this!! I loved working with this exfoliation at my Cosmetology school so much that I purchased my own. This is Nitty Gritty from Clinical Care Rx. It's a bit steep at $50, but it's totally worth it. This is a gysum crystal based exfoilant that can have almost a similar effect as microdermabrasion. It can also prolong the life of your microderm treatment. It makes my skin feel very smooth and rejuvenated. I would recommend this to anyone from mature, normal, acne, combination, or oily skin types. I would not use this on dry skin though, exfoliation on dry skin can hurt, TRUST ME! I have a dry forehead during the winter and I've made the mistake of using this on my forehead, it burns, and can just irritate dry skin even further.

That amazing little thing resting on top is my Clarisonic  Facial Brush from Olay for $23.95. I really enjoy this little guy! this mechanical exfoliating brush in accompany with Nitty Gritty helps my face feel fresh, smooth and new. This brush helps remove the dead skin cells from my face, revealing fresh new skin underneath. I would recommend this to anyone with mature, normal, acne, combination, or oily skin. I would not recommend this to anyone with dry skin, this will also have a harsh effect to the skin.

After cleansing and exfoliating, I like to tone my fresh skin with Sea Breeze Sensitive Skin. This bad boy is a product my mother and aunt told me about. They both used it as teens so I figures What-The-Hey and gave it a try. I'm super glad I did. This astringent helps keep my ph balance in check, preventing my skin from going haywire during the seasons change. Plus it smells like cologne. :P  I would recommend this to acne, normal, oily or combination skin. Again I would not used this on dry skin due to the alcohol content.

I bought this 2 weeks ago and I really like it! Now I don't skin to a certain face mask. I change them up due my the changes in my skin during the changes in season. But for right now I am currently digging this face mask. This is a 2 in 1 face mask. It is a mask as well as an exfoliant. Active charcoal is really good for the skin. When activated, the charcoal acts as a sponge drawing all the dirt and toxins to the surface of your skin, and purifying it. I have skipped my Nitty Gritty before and gone straight to this then toning afterwards. If I do use Nitty Gritty beforehand I will pat this on my face to avoid over scrubbing my face which can cause tiny abrasions which make it easier to obtain an infection.  I got this for a steal of $6.99

After my mask, I like to use Benzoyl Peroxide 10% as a spot control if I have a breakout. Benzoyl Peroxide can help dry out a pimple, reduce size and redness. This I recieved from a dermatologist and I highly recommend to acne and oily skin types.

Eucerin is a life saver. I started using this over 3 months ago while trying to find a good lotion to help with my daughter Delilah's moderate eczema on her lower half, and my eczema on my forehead. Ours get tender during the winter months so finding a good lotion that doesn't hurt the hell out of us was something we direly needed. We have made our rounds with lotions and finally came upon this. Eucerin Intensive Repair. It is a tad greasy but after a minute or so my skin absorbs it all and it just feels so soft and hydrated. My forehead doesn't hurt from the cold. It feels normal and just great! I highly recommend this to anyone who suffers with eczema, dry skin, winter itch, or normal skin. We got this for 12.50

So there it is. My skin care routine as of now. It is constantly changing just like the seasons. I'm sure I'll have another updated routine on here once summer hits. Also more reviews of face masks!

This past week has been pretty busy for me! I've finally received my State Board test date and Worker's Permit! This is one busy yet determined girl. I feel as though nothing can stop me!
This week I got to shoot with the lovely Rebekah! This girl was amazing! She not only did her hair, but she banged out the wardrobe too. Burst Of Color.

Who doesn't love color?? As a lover of all brights; I busted out my Sugarpill palettes and went to town! Sugarpill is known for their INCREDIBLY pigmented colors, so they are the main eyeshadows I used. To help make the colors pop I used Nyx primer in Milk. And the results were amazing!

Other products I used were
Urban Decay 24/7 black liner
CoverGirl Lash Blast mascara
Rimmel Black Kohl liner

Budoir Photoshoot.

I've been working pretty hard setting up freelance prices and packages now that I'm officially done with Cosmetology!! Oh Yea! Oh Yea! With figuring out freelancing as well as looking into spa's now that I will be a licensed Esthetican, I knew I had to get a portfolio together. Facebook has been a great way to network with friends and friends-of-friends who are more than willing to allow me to do their makeup, hair and photos. We have turned it into a dress up party really!

This time I was able to capture my beautiful best friend, my sista from another mista! We haven't seen each other in months because of our crazy schedules and major surgeries. She now suffers a broken leg, but that didn't stop her! I've been planning these shot for a while now; something simple, but elegant and sexy. I wanted a pin up feel to it but I didn't necessarily want the typical fit model, I wanted someone real, someone most can relate to. She is quite the dame, and with that here are some of the photos.

This shot was completely accidental, and turned out to be my favorite out of the whole bunch!

Product wise I used:
A Champagne, Caramel Brown and Black eyeshadow from Coastal Scents 252 palette.
Makeup For Ever Aqua liner W/ thin angle brush.
Rimmel's Glam Eyes Mascara
Anatasia's Brow Palette
Glamour Doll Eyes's Sword Swallower for a dewy highlight
A body glitter lotion from Claire's that I LOVE!!!!!
